Top Jazz Artist Rick DellaRatta and Jazz for Peace to Perform Benefit in Burlington
“After historic concerts in Africa (click here for details) and Brazil (click here for details), Rick DellaRatta and Jazz for Peace perform in Vermont”. On Saturday, April 30, 2011 7:00PM. Singer / Pianist / Composer Rick DellaRatta, considered by many to be one of the finest Jazz Artists performing today, will perform a special Benefit Concert for The Root Center at Halvorson’s Upstreet Café located at 16 Church Street in Burlington, VT.
The Root Center is a registered 501©(3) in the state of Vermont. Their organization will create a network of community-run organic farms integrating sustainable agriculture, design, and energy. Fostering dynamic cooperation between groups and individuals, these living laboratories will cultivate year-round crops of organic produce for donation to food shelves, outreach centers, and psychiatric homes while energizing, inspiring, and strengthening the connections of our surrounding communities.  They have grown over 2600 pounds of organic produce for local food shelves in 2010 on one-tenth of an acre’s worth of backyard garden plots and are planning to expand to a larger scale in 2011. In partnership with the National Gardening Association, The Root Center will grow 25,000 pounds of produce for the food banks in 2011 by creating public vegetable gardens at NGA’s Vermont Garden Park on Dorset St. For more information please visit www.therootcenter.org
Having performed with everyone from Dizzy Gillespie to Paquito D’ Rivera, Rick DellaRatta is now considered by many to be one of the finest Singer/Pianists performing today and one of only a handful of Jazz Artists who can make a successful musical presentation to a large audience without having to abandon the true art form of Jazz. His unique and original piano playing and composing has been compared in print to Chick Corea, Bill Evans, McCoy Tyner and Thelonius Monk while his signature vocal sound and style has been likened to Chet Baker, Billie Holiday, Michael Franks and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Recently, Rick DellaRatta was included in the Book “Jazz Singers” as one of the top Jazz Vocalists of all time and by The Foundation Center in their list of the top musician philanthropists of our time along with Bono (U2), Elton John, Peter Gabriel and Sting.
