All That Jazz! Stefan Scaggiari Concert to Benefit Small Non Profit
Chestertown, MD (PRWEB) September 10, 2006
On September 24, 2006, the manicured lawns of one of Kent County Maryland’s most attractive historic buildings, Great Oak Manor, on the Chesapeake Bay just outside of Chestertown, will be transformed into an outdoor amphitheatre for its fourth annual âJazz on the Bayâ concert. Proceeds from this yearâs concert will benefit Kent Center, which provides services for our communityâs adults who have developmental disabilities such as mental retardation and autism.
Headlining this yearâs event will be Stefan Scaggiari and his Trio. Scaggiari, a pianist, composer and recording artist, has been active in the music industry for more than three decades. To his credit, he has appeared as both an accompanist and a soloist classical and jazz pianist, with an impressive array of symphony orchestras around the country. He has published more than 30 recordings and his music can be heard every week on National Public Radioâs Weekend Edition Sunday. Also to his credit, he has composed theme music for ABC Sports, the Rouse Company, Baltimoreâs Inner Harbor, and Bayside Marketplace in Miami.
Also appearing during the three-hour outdoor concert will be Anthony J. âTonyâ Spencer, an independent vocal performer who is a talented artist, poet, model, composer, storyteller and founder of Enrapture Records in Annapolis, MD. His performing career has included appearances with Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, James Cleveland, Shirley Caesar, the Dixie Humming Birds and many others.
Kent Center is the primary provider of 24-hour a day services for the communityâs adults who have developmental disabilities such as mental retardation, autism, and/or physical disabilities. For 10 years, it has been planning for a new building to house its Day Program, which provides daytime habilitation services for the folks who have more severe disabilities. Construction on its new building began in the fall of 2005 and when complete, will replace an undersized facility in Betterton, Maryland. The small, non profit organization, formerly known as Angelsâ Haven of Kent, has recently undertaken a capital campaign to raise $ 5 million to pay for the new facility which will open in the winter of 2007; $ 4.4 million has been raised to date.
Advance tickets to the fund raising concert are $ 35 ($ 40 at the door), and include admission, a boxed lunch, a cold beverage, and a donation to Kent Center, whose staff and members of its Board of Directors will be volunteering their time at the event. Wine and beer will be available for purchase. Concert goers are invited to arrive at 1 p.m. and are encouraged to bring their favorite lawn chair or a blanket. The concert will run from 2 until 5 p.m., rain or shine.
