Jennifer-Marakovits

I graduated from the Eastman School of Music with a Bachelor of Music in music education. A few years after graduation, I married my husband, Joe, a medicinal chemist in drug discovery. We have called California home for 18 years.

In 1995 I opened a music studio in the Cardiff Town Center, where I taught the piano as well as an early childhood program called “Kindermusik”. After closing the studio a few years later (due to a renovation project on the building) our children, Tim (12) and Olivia (9) arrived. We all now reside happily in Encinitas.

When my son started kindergarten I started teaching music at his school. Later, I returned to school to pursue a California teaching credential in multiple subjects. I am presently seeking a job in elementary education, while subbing for schools in North County.

Much of my time is focused on my children, as I shuttle them to their various activities after school; some of which include guitar, piano, sports, art and scouts. Life is busy and fun—it’s great to be together as a family, taking trips and simply enjoying this special times in our lives.

I volunteer at my church for all kinds of musical requests. I play the hand bells, as well as the recorder for the San Diego Recorder Society, and conduct the choir at my children’s school.

In addition to being totally committed to my family, I consider myself a professional “learner”. I am enrolled at UCLA while I pursue my Clear Teaching credential. I enjoy taking courses and attending workshops in music and general education, and am also working on a Gifted and Talented certification.

While I was once a serious classically trained pianist who played in piano competitions and art shows (practicing several hours a day), I now play piano for my own amusement and amazement. I am promoting rock and roll for my tween son to introduce a fun diversity to his own classical guitar playing. At this time, I am not interested in teaching privately, but simply enjoy playing for pleasure. AmateurPianists is the perfect fit for me at this point in my life!
