A lot of composers, including myself are writing in this romantic style, but we could be making a big mistake. Example, if you click on my name you’ll hear the finale to my 2nd Piano Concerto. I sent the concerto to several conductors around the USA and they all politely declined performing it, citing not that the music was bad-they said it was very good-but that the style was passe; that music has evolved far beyond romanticism. If they’re right, it’s very bad news for us Romantic composers.
Liszt wishes to throw up on these ridiculous facial expressions and arm movements. His expression is completely fake. Liszt would think that this is very child like. Its also annoying that every time I listen to Lang Lang, I either have to scroll down or mute the video, or both. Lang Lang is simply an actor.

Really nice. But in my opinion some parts are just too fast that the harmony disappears. Which is shame. (Don’t kill me, please!! I just started learning this piece and I listen to the harmonies really deeply so I know how wondeful they are

I feel sad and think: “I wil never be able to play as good as him” when I listen to Lang Lang.
This is my alarm in the mornings– absolutely lovely.
To ppl saying “you’ll never be as good as him so stfu”, well, music is heard as much as it is performed, and everyone has the right to be a critical listener even for the most talented performer. Otherwise it’s just a Stalinist world of music where jack can be said to anyone cos everybody is worse than somebody, and nobody can be better than everybody all the time.
All you ppl hyped by this guy, go listen to a decent recital by any piano professor from a prominent school. Quite simply he lacks skill to be a world class pianist. Which I think is why he showboats his way around the world. C’mon, playing with an orange?? He’s a world class entertainer, I’ll give him that.
I always find Lang Lang’s renditions to be too rushed (not necessarily fast, but rushed) and lacking in sophistication. Of course, this is me comparing him to other greats like Horowitz, Rubinstein, Richter, and the like. Which subsequently means that Lang Lang is not included in that company of immortals.
Though it really does seem as if he’s just doing it for attention. It’s like watching a blind man pretend to read a book. He’s trying, but you can’t help laughing.

Stop defending Lang Lang’s performances and justifying it with “I BET YOU CAN’T PLAY LIKE THIS LOL.” He can only be reasonably compared to other concert pianists, almost all of whom are better.
