A dedication…

I designed this website to fill a need I recognized: Playing the piano is not just a hobby. It is a passion shared by thousands. While there are many professional, concertizing pianists, there are countless more who fall under the category of “amateur pianist.” These are the people who don’t make piano their full-time vocation, but rather they play because they simply love to. These include doctors, students, teachers, and a thousand other professions who, at the end of the day, have a desire to connect with classical music.

In this website, you will find links to amateur piano competitions, watch videos of amateur pianists, listen to recordings, and be inspired.  Follow this site on twitter or visit the Facebook site to reach out to other amateur pianists, possibly some in your own neighborhood. And you are free to submit any story, photo, or video on the Facebook site.

In early 2011, I founded AmateurPianists San Diego. This group of over 200 piano aficionados meets quarterly and gives performing opportunities to amateur pianists who desire to play in front of audiences. In my experience, listening to live music, connecting with other pianists, and possibly making new lifelong friends are some of the highlights of these piano celebrations.

Lastly, I wish to dedicate this website to my piano teacher and good friend, Dick Warnick. I couldn’t imagine how different my life would be without his piano instruction, support, friendship, and great advice over the years. As he inspired me, I hope you will be inspired to connect with great music and friends.
